Free Printable Grocery List by Category (Aisle-by-Aisle Template)

Updated October 20, 2026

A printable grocery list sorted by category makes a shopping trip faster: you work through the store section by section, check off what you need and skip what you already have. This template follows the usual layout of a US supermarket, from produce to household items, and ends with blank lines for anything it does not cover.

Not sure yet? See the full list first. You can pick items after the list.

How to use the template

  1. Print it or save it as a PDF. Click "Print this list". In the print window, choose your printer or "Save as PDF".
  2. Walk through the kitchen. Check the fridge, freezer and pantry and tick what you need to buy.
  3. Take it to the store. The order roughly follows a typical walk through the store.

This is a general grocery list for a household of two to four people. It has no quantities, because they depend on how many you cook for. Add your own items at the bottom.

Prefer your phone? Use a list that sorts itself

A paper list is the one you wrote yesterday. With Talklist you say what you need ("milk, two avocados and a pound of pasta") and the list sorts itself by store section. You can share it with a link, with no account, and check items off as you shop. Need a page for the fridge? The Print button prints your own list with empty boxes to tick.

To use one list together, read Shared grocery list without an account or Grocery list maker you can talk to. For ready-made lists for holidays, see the guides.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print the grocery list?
Click "Print this list" above, or press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac). Only the template prints, without the text around it, on one letter-size page in three columns.

Can I save the grocery list as a PDF?
Yes. In the print window, choose "Save as PDF" instead of a printer (Chrome, Edge) or the "PDF" menu (Safari on a Mac). There is no file to download: the PDF is created in your browser.

Can I edit the template?
The printed page has blank lines at the bottom for your own items. To change the list itself, add it to Talklist: you can remove, add and reorder items there, then print your own version with the Print button.

Is there a Word, Excel or Google Docs version?
Not at the moment. You can print the list, save it as a PDF, or create it directly in Talklist.

How much does it cost?
Nothing. The template and Talklist are free to use today, with no sign-up and no ads.
