Talklist keeps your list sorted by store section as you shop, lets you check items off, and lets you share it with whoever else is shopping. You can also add anything missing by saying it out loud: "a gallon of milk, two boxes of cereal and a pack of string cheese".

How to shop for a family without overbuying
- Plan dinners first. Choose 5 or 6 dinners, buy what they need, then add breakfast, lunch and snacks.
- Keep a running list. Add items as they run out, so the weekly list is mostly written before you shop.
- Let everyone add to the list. Share one list with your partner and older kids and everything lands in one place.
- Buy staples in larger packs only if you will use them and have room to store them.
- Use the freezer. Meat, bread and fruit freeze well and cut waste.
Getting the family involved
- Share the list by link. Anyone with the link can add and check off items. Nobody needs an account.
- Let kids pick a fruit or snack. It makes shopping easier and gets them involved.
- Plan one "leftover night." It uses up what is left in the fridge.
